Abstract

Schizophrenic disorders, of which at least five separate kinds are now recognised, remain difficult to diagnose and still harder to treat. This volume reviews the most important work published in the last year, with expert comment and analysis from two of the leading authorities in the field. The editors review the latest advances in our understanding of the biochemical basis of the disease, its detection and diagnosis, and its relationship to other co-existent mental illness. There is extensive coverage of psychopharmacological treatment and expert comment on reports of recent findings and on new treatment regimes. In addition, this volume also includes discussion of psychosocial therapies. The Year in Schizophrenia enables the reader to keep up to date with the therapeutic options available, and maintain a better informed perspective on current opinion. It should find a place in the office of every doctor involved in the study and treatment of this complex and challenging disorder.
