Abstract

ASHP’s Informatics Pearls is a compilation of expanded versions of original sessions from the 2006 and 2007 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meetings. The pearls presented will help identify how pharmacy informatics programs can be utilized in your hospital system to improve patient care. It will also compare various pharmacy informatics programs and how they improve the medication-use system.

Bonnie Levin, PharmD, MBA Dr. Levin is Corporate Assistant Vice President, Pharmacy Services with the White Oaks Informatics Center, MedStar Health, Silver Spring, MD    Michael Schlesselman, Pharm.D., FASHP,  Dr. Schlesselman is currently the Director of IT Program Management Office at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, CT and Adjunct Professor for the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy. Dr. Schlesselman obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University and completed a clinical pharmacy residency at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Schlesselman has served as a Director-at-Large for the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology and has served as chair of the programming committee for the Informatics and Technology Section. Dr. Schlesselman has implemented and participated in the implementation of pharmacy automation, pharmacy information systems and hospital information systems. He is currently managing the implementation of the hospital electronic medical record.
